The year 2023 was Michelle Yeoh’s year enjoyed by the
family of Yeohs, Lim, Chews and Oh relatives.
In March she was received an Oscar for
best actress for the movie “Everything Everywhere All At Once”. The family rejoiced
with Michelle together at that moment in her time of happiness irrespective of
which continent they lived.
Then in July this year she married Jean Todt her partner of 19
years in a simple ceremony in Geneva. Only her immediate family which
was her brother and his family attended.
Eldest sister Christine Yeoh Choo Hoon phoned to Michelle
enquiring when she would be home for the family to celebrate this endless good
news. Michelle replied that 16 December was a firm date when she would be
available.
According to Christine they regularly held a annual memorial
for their dad, Dato Yeoh Kian Teik around October 25. "Due to Covid and the
pandemic the family had not met up with Michelle and each other. She won an
Oscar and got married which we could not attend so we asked her for an
available date. When Michelle proposed December 16 Christine announced it to
all YLCO family members.
Almost all of the relatives are professionals. We had
to give them ample notice to make travel arrangements. Many lived and worked
overseas eg USA, UK, Canada, Hong Kong and Singapore hence an early alert was
appreciated. It was strictly a family event so no official invitation was sent
out". A few days before 16 December all were in Ipoh.’
The gathering was held at 1 Jalan Lasam, where the
YLCO Museum is located. Dato Lim Si Boon organised the venue while Christine
organised the family and food.
Christine chose hawker food which Michelle enjoyed over
a restaurant menu. It had to be a menu they liked and which could not be found
overseas. We had 3 meetings just to get the menu
right. Some of menu included Taman Meru signature prawn mee, cendol from Gunung Rapat,
Chee Cheong Fun, Lok Lok, Roast Pork, Apom Funny Mountain Tau Foo Fah and durian. .

Finally Dato Lim showed them the YLCO family museum and how the families are connected , their ancestors, her brilliant uncles and relatives and Michelle’s father Dato Yeoh
Kian Teik. Here she showed an interest by taking photos of their relatives, a younger Michelle in earlier years and a 2005 Time Magazine which had the story the "Making of a Geisha".

Overall the relatives loved every minute of the gathering. It was a family reunion that was fuss free without the rush and was pleasantly relaxing. Michelle and Jean were both gracious and accommodating. And all the photos were lovely with hugs and smiles.
 |
| .."I was so happy. So many siblings, cousins, family members came from all around the world to celebrate. Thank you to the Lim family for hosting us all at their fantastic museum!"..Michelle |
When it was it was time to go all asked the question when would the
next gathering take place. Only time could answer that question.
