Christine Chew Visits YLCO Museum With Her Daughters

Christine Chew visited the YLCO museum on Christmas 2022 with her daughters Lee Yuen Yee and Lee Lyn Yee. This was her second visit coming one month after visiting together with Datin Chow Yoong Yu and the Yeoh clan.

She recalled that Yeoh Chee Pui requested her for the fourth time saying the museum would close thereafter so she came.

Christine was glad she came for the November visit for she met so many old friends eg Agnes Chew, Chee Pui, Oh Teik Hee and also Oh Teik Soo who she had not seen for ages.

The museum itself was very interesting. It had many photos and had a display of my grandmother Oh Lai Kee and her sister Oh Lai Koon who was married to the Yeoh family.

Christine admitted that she didn’t know my grandparents very well as my dad Chew Eng Aun worked in east Malaysia when i was young. I returned to Ipoh when I was in Form 2.

I don’t remember my grandfather Chew Choon Wah. I probably knew him because I used to come back when young but I really don’t remember him”.

When my daughters came for the Christmas weekend they were keen to visit the museum.  Ignatius had opened the museum for them and walked them to through the time which they had missed through the ages.

Both daughters Yune Yee and Lyn Yee lived and studied in Ipoh but now work in Kuala Lumpur occasionally visiting their parents.

“When we were young we spent time with our grandfather Chew Eng Aun” said Yune Yee. About other relatives we didn’t meet often but if we saw them on the road we would say hello. But for the Lim and Oh we were totally unaware until the connection today.

Similarly we thought my grandfather Chew Boon Juan was from Penang not Ipoh. It was surprising that there is a road named after him.

"Most of what we know came from my mum but we only heard small snippets not the full picture. It’s was good that Uncle Ignatius was able to show us our big family today."
