“Please Open YLCO Museum For My Grandkids” – Yeoh Lam Wah

Ignatius got a request last Saturday 17 December  “to open the YLCO family museum for my grandkids who are visiting Ipoh”. The request was from Yeoh Lam Wah the son of Yeoh Kian Hin.

He said his grandchildren had no idea of his heritage and in turn theirs too. An exposure to the YLCO museum would provide a glimpse of my life. 

The grand kids Yeoh Ee Shuen and Yeoh Yi Jae and their mother Yap Chin Ping came with their aunts Yeoh Chee Pui and Yeoh Chee Peng.

Ignatius took them through the museum acquainting them to the great grand parents up till Yeoh Kian Joo and Lim Siew Tong and all the relatives in between.

When asked about the tour Yap Chin Peng said she knew the family was large but today she saw the family including the relatives in detail. While Ee Shuen described it as ‘confusing’ Yi Jae said ‘not really confusing but it was very big’.

A call to Lam Wah later in the week revealed that the family “was very happy seeing the museum”.

It had opened their eyes to what it is like to be a Yeoh. It is not boastful but just be proud of your heritage.

One of the goals was I wanted them to realize that they have a lot of relative all over the place, to know their uncles who were professional and had multiple wives and know the heritage of our Yeoh family.

The YLCO museum certainly fulfilled that goal.
